Affiliate Disclosure

Last updated:

Product Detector is free to use and is supported by retailer affiliate commissions. This page explains exactly how that works, because we think you should know.

What is an affiliate link?

An affiliate link is a normal product URL with a small tracking parameter attached (for example, ?tag=productdetector-20). When you click an affiliate link and end up buying something from that retailer, the retailer pays us a small commission — usually 1% to 4% of the order. The price you pay is identical either way; the commission comes out of the retailer's margin.

Where we use affiliate links

When you open the extension popup, we may show comparison results from retailers including Amazon, Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and others. The links to those comparison results may include affiliate tags.

Where we don't

We do not modify links on the page you are already visiting. If you're on a product page on Amazon, we don't rewrite Amazon's links, replace anyone else's affiliate tag, or interfere with your existing session. We never insert ourselves into a checkout flow you're already in.

Programs we participate in

Product Detector is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to amazon.com.

Product Detector may also participate in affiliate programs operated by Walmart, Target, Best Buy, and other retailers either directly or through affiliate networks such as Impact, CJ Affiliate, or Sovrn Commerce.

How this affects our recommendations

Our comparison results are ordered by price — cheapest first. We do not re-rank retailers based on commission rate. If a retailer that doesn't pay us a commission has the lowest price, that result still appears at the top.
